Why Healthy Women Still Need Treats

Because the healthiest life isn't the one that looks perfect—it's the one you actually enjoy living.

There was a time in my life when I thought being healthy meant constantly saying no.

No dessert.

No coffee dates.

No chips and salsa.

No cheese boards.

No fun.

Like a lot of women, I believed that if I wanted to feel good in my body, I had to earn it by being "good" all the time. And honestly? It was exhausting.

The funny thing is, the harder I tried to be perfect, the more miserable I became.

These days, my approach to wellness looks very different.

I still care deeply about the foods I eat. I prioritize protein, vegetables, movement, and taking care of my body—but I also make room for the little things that make life feel special.

Because at some point, I realized something important:

A healthy lifestyle shouldn't feel like a punishment.

It should feel like something you actually want to wake up and do.

Wellness Isn't Built on Restriction

Somewhere along the way, wellness became synonymous with deprivation.

Scroll social media for five minutes and you'll see people cutting out entire food groups, counting every calorie, and convincing themselves that healthy living has to be hard.

But what if we've been thinking about it all wrong?

What if the goal isn't to eat less—but to eat better?

What if healthy living isn't about eliminating everything you love, but about finding balance?

For me, that balance looks like filling my plate with foods that make my body feel good most of the time, while still making room for the things that bring me joy.

Because the truth is, a life built entirely around restriction isn't sustainable.

And honestly, it isn't much fun either.

My Favorite "Treats" Aren't What They Used to Be

One of the biggest surprises of getting older is realizing that the things that feel indulgent have changed.

A few years ago, a treat might have meant a shopping trip or a big night out.

Now?

Sometimes it's:

  • Buying the fancy cheese at the grocery store.

  • Saying yes to a coffee date with a friend.

  • Picking up flowers for the kitchen table.

  • Eating chips with homemade cowboy caviar on the patio.

  • Splurging on sourdough bread from the local bakery.

  • Sitting outside for twenty minutes after dinner while the kids play.

They're simple things.

Small things.

But they're the moments that make everyday life feel beautiful.
